Course Overview.
Political science is simply the study of politics and deals with systems of government and analysis of political behaviour and activity.  Political science deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics which plays a very important role towards determining distribution of power and resources in any given region. Broadly, it entails political ideologies, institutions, ideas, processes, policies among other areas. Professionals in this field are known as political scientists. Political scientists study the origin, development and operation of political systems. In addition, these professionals research political ideas and analyze governments, policies, political trends and related issues.

Being a determinant of values and the authoritative allocation of resources in an enduring system, politics plays a fundamental role in the development of any society worldwide.  Political science, as the study of politics, is therefore significant to the understanding of the dynamics of the development process.  The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, With IT) is a four year course that has been designed to equip learners with skills and knowledge in political science and enable them participate effectively towards socio-economic and political development of the country. In general it seeks to advance the ideals of an active, well informed citizenry and a commitment to public service. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can find employment within public and private sectors of the economy.

Entry Qualifications.
For self sponsored students, at least a mean grade of C+ in KCSE. For Government sponsored students, the minimum cut point which is announced annually applies. The students should in addition have good performance in the following cluster subjects; Subject 1 ENG/KIS, Subject 2 MAT A / MAT B or any GROUP II, Subject 3 any GROUP III, Subject 4 a GROUP II or 2nd GROUP III or any GROUP IV or any GROUP V.

If you are interested in politics, public policies, public administration or even international relations, then pursuing this career might be a good choice for you. In addition, you should be prepared to develop skills that can help you grow and succeed in this field.

Political scientists have excellent intellectual curiosity which enables them to continually explore new ideas and information to produce original papers and research as well as staying current on political subjects and come up with new ways to think about and address issues. Political scientists also have good writing skills especially those who write papers on political issues as they must be able to convey their research results clearly.

Political scientists possess excellent analytical skills as they often use qualitative and quantitative research methods in their work. They also use these skills when collecting, evaluating and interpreting data. Political scientists must have good interpersonal and communication skills to enable them interact and communicate effectively with their clients.
