Course Overview
Business administration by definition is an activity or process of managing a business to achieve maximum business stability and growth. From small businesses to major corporations, every business operation requires competent and skilled administrators who can manage and propel the business forward. Professionals in field can be referred to as business administrators among other titles depending on the position held and area of specialization. A business administrator incorporates a variety of different job titles. For instance, a business administrator could encompass a professional interested in overseeing accounting department within an organization or marketing personnel in charge of managing the image of a company or even a professional in charge of managing people and business structures. Whichever the title or career path pursued, business administrators are extremely beneficial to any business whether small or multinationals. The Bachelor in Business Administration, With IT is offered within the Department of Management Science. Management science is a broad interdisciplinary study that focuses on decision making and problem solving with strong links to business, economics and other sciences. The curriculum of Bachelor in Business Administration (With IT) is designed to produce highly trained personnel in areas such as; finance, accounting, marketing and management. In addition, the programme is also intended to provide students with professional foundation tailored to policy formulation and practice in Business Administration. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will have a critical understanding of the economic, financial and business theories as well as having appropriate business skills to enable them become competitive practitioners and entrepreneurs within the industry within the public service, the private sector and non-governmental organisations.
Entry requirement
For self sponsored students, at least a mean grade of C+ in KCSE. For Government sponsored students, the minimum cut point which is announced annually applies. The students should in addition have good performance in the following cluster Subjects; Subject 1 ENG/KIS, Subject 2 MAT A or any GROUP II, Subject 3 any GROUP III, Subject 4 a GROUP II or 2nd GROUP III or any GROUP IV or any GROUP V.

Business administrators must possess excellent analytical skills that can enable them to review an organization’s procedures and find ways to improve efficiency. Good interpersonal and communications skills are equally important in this field as professionals in this field spent more time working with other people. Therefore, communication is a key quality as well as being able to relate well with others. Business administrators especially those in marketing should have good negotiating skills as the nature of their work entails negotiating good terms of a contract with a supplier and other stakeholders
Keenness and detail oriented is paramount as these administrators must be able to pay attention to details. This quality is necessary across a range of tasks, from ensuring that the organization complies tax returns to managing the processes of buying equipment and managing other company affairs. Good leadership skills goes hand in hand in this profession to ensure proper management of workers and coordinating administrative duties as well as being able to motivate employees and deal with issues that may arise. In addition, administrators need to have good decision making skills as they must have the ability to make informed and timely decisions.
