What is quantity survey?
Quantity survey or surveying is a profession that deals with estimating or calculating what a construction project is going to cost; the total construction budget. Professionals in this field are known as quantity surveyors. Quantity surveyors calculate the costs required to complete a construction project among other duties. Quantity surveyors can find jobs in architectural, construction, building, civil engineering and allied fields.
For one to be qualified as a quantity surveyor, a Bachelor of Science degree in quantity survey / surveying in required with a KCSE mean grade C+ (plus) and above. However, candidates can still enter this profession with lower qualification such as a diploma in quantity survey/ surveying. If you love maths among other applied subjects, you might find a career in quantity survey interesting to you.
Requirements for quantity survey course
The admission requirement for quantity survey/ surveying courses is depended on the level and or the subject clusters. The following are the subjects needed or required for one to pursue a quantity survey course (degree level); Subject 1 MATA, Subject 2 PHY, Subject 3any GROUP III and Subject 42nd GROUP II or 2nd GROUP III or any GROUP IV or any GROUP V. Good performance in these subjects is vital. The cluster points required vary from year to year depending on the performance of the candidates.
Other quantity survey/ surveying courses
For candidates who do not meet the admission requirements for degree courses in quantity survey but interested in this field, they can start at a diploma course. The requirements for a diploma in quantity survey/ surveying is KCSE mean grade C- (minus) and above. Later they can advance to a higher diploma in quantity surveying or even a degree in Bachelor of Science degree in quantity surveying.
Certificate courses
Students with KCSE mean grade D plain and above can enroll for certificate in quantity survey/ surveying or related fields and advance their education upon successful completion of the certificate course.
